Job Description

Clerk C position is an advertising and sales associate position at the Student Organization Resource Center (SORC).  Office is open 10AM-6PM Monday through Friday during busy times and 11AM-4PM during slower times. There is opportunity for promotion to a Student Balloon Coordinator and Student Manager with proper experience and work ethic.

Clerks are trained to conduct advertising sales appointments, process advertising requests, write contracts for SORC services and materials, answer phone calls and emails, refer customers to appropriate university resources, assist guests with copies and faxes, monitor inventory, prepare and inflate balloon bouquets, and check in advertising materials submitted by customers for posting by field crew. Excellent written communication skills are crucial, as face-to-face contact with other staff members is minimal.  

Clerks must be willing to do unexpected tasks as delegated by the managers. A passion for neatness and organization is essential. This position is the foundation of the services that the SORC provides. It fosters invaluable customer service and problem solving skills that you will use in almost every job in the future.

We will teach you how to do everything related to this job. If you've never sent a fax, don't worry. If you've never inflated balloons, don't worry. The most important thing is that you have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and a desire to work on a diverse team of students in a fun, sometimes fast-paced environment.

Job description:

A commitment to providing excellent customer services is a must. Sound judgment and problem-solving skills are also very important; desire to enthusiastically satisfy customers; PC and internet familiarity; previous clerical and/or customer service experience is helpful; ability to work efficiently and with motivation from within; resourcefulness in finding answers to unusual customer questions. Minimum commitment of 18 months (sophomores and freshmen preferred) due to extensive training.

This job requires extensive and frequent e-mail communication.  If you are not proficient typing emails with attention to detail, this job is not a good fit for you.

Student employees of the Center for Campus Involvement (CCI) and Student Organization Resource Center (SORC) must complete the Clery Act Training and Responsible Employee Training courses.  Implications of this can be discussed during the interview process.
