Job Description

A physician-scientist in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of General Medicine seeks a part-time undergraduate level student to work as part of the team as a temporary Research Assistant. The Research Assistant will support the physician-scientist in conducting exciting research projects involving health care decision making using gaming simulation.  This position is located at the NCRC campus, 2800 Plymouth Road. A flexible schedule is available, approximately 10 to 20 hours per week.

 

ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare scientific manuscripts and grants (e.g., copy editing, proofreading, and creation of tables/figures and references)
  • Work on testing the CHAT game ( CHAT (Choosing Healthplans All Together) 
  • Assist with posters and PowerPoint slide preparation for talks
  • Conduct literature searches and background research on current health policy topics
  • Schedule and attend research team meetings as able

Educational Value

Research assistant will gain experience working with faculty on research topics related to health care. Research assistant will gain a good understanding of the process of preparing a manuscript for publication in a medical journal as well as designing surveys and using gaming simulation to assist patients and the public with health care decision making.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current UM undergrad student with work study funding award notice
  • Proficiency in the PC and Mac environments and with programs including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must have experience working with PubMed
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize tasks for meeting project deadlines
  • Superb interpersonal skills
  • Strong work ethic

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in gaming and/or gaming simulation a plus!

  • Familiar with Google Drive-based website maintenance, using Twitter and other social media
Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
