Job Description
This position will be for Fall/Winter into Spring/Summer based upon work volume.  Please do not apply if you are not available during these terms. We will work around classes during these terms.

Palmer Commons serves the University of Michigan community by providing conference and event spaces, services and departmental office spaces as provisioned by the Office of the Provost, managed in accordance with University Unions guidelines.
  • Demonstrate exceptional skills, both written and verbal
  • Deliver exemplary customer service to all guests of Palmer Commons through a variety of forms of interaction including online and in person
  • Cultivate an accessible, safe, and inclusive environment for all guests using Palmer Commons facility, services, and programs  
  • Students in this position need to provide event scheduling and administrative support within the Event Services area in Palmer Commons.  
  • Student event staff will enter event data, gather program agendas and create diagrams for more complex events scheduled in Palmer Commons.  
  • Applicants should be familiar with university departments and student organizations or have the ability to learn about the different departments and organizations.
 
This position offers flexible scheduling, a fun environment and good pay. Our ideal candidates will possess previous customer service experience, be skilled in seeking out and obtaining information, data entry and great administrative and communication skills. Hours will be scheduled around each individuals academic schedule.

Also, Microsoft Office experience a plus. The scheduling office hours will be from 8:30am-5pm Monday–Friday. Looking for someone that can commit to 12-15 hrs per week for fall and winter term and commit to 20+hrs for spring/summer term. We are looking for student staff that can make a commitment beyond just fall and winter term.  Second year through third year students are encouraged to apply.

Job Requirements

Team members work within a fast-paced and dynamic Event Services group to develop event planning and scheduling skills, communication, customer service and real-world leadership skills.  Good business practices, time management, professionalism and advanced customer service experience needed.  Graduation from high school, supplemented by courses in, data entry, typing, bookkeeping; and/or office/clerical experience.  In addition, a wide range of computer skills/experience will be required.  For consideration for this position please email a cover letter and resume to kcompton@umich.edu, Kathi Compton, Event Services Manager, Palmer Commons.
