Job Description

ELI 580 Program Assistant

The English Language Institute is recruiting undergraduate students for paid consulting positions in an online GSI teacher preparation course for graduate students who speak English as an additional language. If you have worked as a 994 Student Consultant/Program Assistant before, this job is very smilar.

What will you do??

  • Participate in practice office hours and teaching sessions, as you would for a regular class 

  • Give feedback to prospective GSIs on the quality of their instruction in terms of language use and lesson delivery

  • Get paid to act like yourselves - students in a U-M class!

What qualifications do you need?

  • Enrollment as an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan

  • Experience in LSA undergraduate courses

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Ability to offer clear, concise feedback in both written and oral form

  • Availability for all of the following dates/times

    Educational Value

    ELI 580 Program Assistants will hone their intercultural communication skills, explore language learning issues, and learn more about English by interacting with individuals from a variety of language and cultural backgrounds. They will also strengthen their own small talk (social and professional) skills as they interact with graduate business students.

     
    Job Requirements
    • Current enrollment as an undergraduate student;

    • Interest in world cultures, languages, and cross-cultural exchange;

    • Time availability (please see dates above) and punctuality;

    • Excellent English communication skills;

    • International experience or experience learning/speaking a second language is helpful but not required

    Preference will be given to candidates who:

    • have previous experience as an ELI 994 Student Consultant

    • have prior successful performance in an ELI course;

    • have experience in an ESL/EAP environment;

    • have prior teaching or tutoring experience

    Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
