Job Description
Community Action Network's Food Program Assistant Position. 
Food Distribution Program Assistants are imperative to the success of our food security work at the Bryant Community Center, which is open to anyone in Washtenaw County. Essential job duties:
  • Unload deliveries and check food for quality
  • Organize food to prepare for distribution 
  • Distribute items to families as needed
  • Help maintain an inventory of pantry items 
  • Utilize excellent customer service skills to create a welcoming environment where community members feel welcome and safe
  • Communicate food pantry expectations with clients
  • Input, record, and maintain client records in online databases as needed (i.e. Salesforce, Link2Feed)
  • Assist with and take initiative in the general upkeep of the pantry area. This can include breaking down boxes, sweeping, mopping, cleaning shelves, refrigerators, and freezers, and the overall general clean-up of distribution and pantry areas 
Program Assistants must be available at least two of the following time slots:
Mondays: 9:00 am - Noon 
Tuesday: 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Wednesday: 9:00 am - Noon
Thursday: 9:00 am - Noon 
Friday 9:30 am - 2:00 pm

CAN's Bryant Community Center food distribution site is one of the largest distributors of food security support for under-resourced Washtenaw County families. This opportunity provides wonderful hands-on experience for students in human service, social work, psychology, and other related fields. Program Assistants have the opportunity to learn about food security, client case management work, referrals, and top-quality customer service for under-resourced community members.

Job Requirements

Ability to work collaboratively on a dynamic team- Ability to demonstrate cultural awareness and humility working with diverse, underrepresented communities - Ability to use a computer and web browsing applications - Excellent communication skills - Ability to repeatedly lift and move items over 30 lbs.

Hourly Rate $19.00/hour
Hours 6.0 to 20.0 hours per week
