Job Description

University Unions is an organizational unit within Student Life which offers services, programs, spaces and student involvement opportunities within the Michigan League, Michigan Union and Pierpont Commons.

Palmer Commons serves the University of Michigan community by providing conference and event spaces and services, dining facilities and departmental office spaces as provisioned by the Office of the Provost, managed in accordance with University Unions guidelines.   • Preferably a second or third year art student
  • Maintain and diversify Palmer Commons’ existing artwork collection
  • Act as Palmer Commons liaison to build relationships within the UM art community, including students, departments, faculty, as well as Ann Arbor community resources in order to build and rotate Palmer Commons’ student art collection
  • Pursue and develop exhibition opportunities that benefit artists and enrich the UM community experience at Palmer Commons
  • Maintain art collection inventory, database and Art Loan Agreements
  • Must have working knowledge of art and technical aspects of exhibiting art
  • Help in marketing Palmer Commons as a desirable exhibit destination to UM art students, faculty and Ann Arbor community
  • Help develop goals and objectives for the art coordinator position
  • Develop and implement a succession plan to hand down to incoming art coordinators

Skills: Microsoft Office Suite basics, interpersonal skills, ability to work independently as well as with a group, experience with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign and other graphic design software a plus Position offers a flexible schedule and the opportunity to build on skills such as project management, accountability and networking, while adding to your career resume Candidate must actively participate in self-assessment to determine Student Learning Outcomes & other required training sessions at Palmer and University Unions.
