Title: Game Day Zero Waste Educator Background: One of U-M’s sustainability goals is to reduce waste sent to landfill by 40% by 2025. To support this goal, in 2016 Athletics committed to striving toward zero waste game days at Michigan Stadium. Each home game, concession areas are staffed by volunteers from a variety of community groups. Proper volunteer participation in the zero waste program is critical to the success of the effort at Michigan Stadium. This position is responsible for training these volunteers on what materials should be composted, recycled, and landfilled. Recycling and compost bins and dumpsters are located around the stadium concourse for both fan and volunteer use. On each game day, nearby U-M-sponsored tailgates strive to be zero waste events. These events also require assistance and monitoring. Responsibilities: Game Day Zero Waste Educators will be responsible for training concession volunteers before each home game of the 2025 football season. This includes visiting each concession area to provide educational materials and instruction on how to properly sort waste and answer zero waste stadium questions. The Zero Waste Stadium Educators will also be responsible for noting, correcting, and reporting on any misplaced materials in waste bins and dumpsters around the stadium both during the game and clean up. Game Day Zero Waste Educators will also ensure bins are properly located on the concourse. Game Day Zero Waste Educators will also be responsible for assisting with U-M-sponsored zero waste tailgates adjacent to the Stadium. This includes assisting the tailgate event planners with bin monitoring, outreach, and education. |
