This position works with the College of Engineering Multidisciplinary Design Program (MDP) Team to support the Faculty Research Program, which engages undergraduate first-year to masters students participating for curricular credit in research opportunities programs. The assistant will play a central role in assisting MDP staff with program planning and preparation for the following academic year and with planning and facilitating student workshops and activities for the MDP Summer Student Fellows program.  

This position supports the College of Engineering’s Multidisciplinary Design Program (MDP), with a primary focus on the Faculty Research Program. The program connects undergraduate and master’s students with research opportunities for academic credit.

During the Fall and Winter terms, the Research Assistant will help plan and deliver student programming and training, observe research teams, and support program implementation, evaluation, and improvement. The expected commitment is 5–10 hours per week during the Fall term.

The position is expected to continue through the end of Winter 2027. Summer 2027 work may also be available, with hours and responsibilities discussed in March 2027. Summer work may include supporting MDP Student Fellows and assisting with program planning, marketing, and recruitment for the next academic year.

This position is ideal for those who are interested in higher education research, engineering/STEM research, or education program management. Candidates with experience in research and/or engineering student organizations are encouraged to apply.

Estimated effort: 5-10 hours per week in the Fall and Winter terms and up to 20 hours per week for the Summer.

Responsibilities*

·       Use knowledge and expertise related to education, engineering/STEM and research to participate in program planning, team observations, and MDP events.

·       Support the planning and implementation of MDP events. Lead planning and implementation as needed.

·       Assist with writing, updating, and organizing website and course content to better communicate our work, mission, and programs for students, faculty, and staff.

·       Create and facilitate sessions for MDP research students and develop new workshop ideas where the incumbent’s interests overlap with the mission and vision of MDP.

·       Contribute to on-going engineering education research, evaluation, and analysis of program data, including conducting interviews with MDP students and alumni.

·       Solicit feedback from MDP students to update program data; analyze and summarize data.
