Job Description

The Dean's Office of the Rackham Graduate School seeks 2-3 (work study only) students/temporary employees to perform general office functions and event set-up/breakdown for the Dean’s Office team, Rackham Program Review, and R-SEAT.  

Duties include:

  • coverage of the front reception desk and answering phones, daily suite closure procedures, and assisting with suite closure signage when necessary

  • assisting the Dean’s Suite staff with projects and routine office work (e.g., word processing or data entry; copying, collating, and preparing documents for distribution; imaging or filing)

  • produce and edit documents; assist with document conversion, splitting, and combining documents to .pdf using Adobe

  • event planning and preparation assistance (such as making coffee, stocking kitchen supplies, setting up for events, receiving catering orders and setting them up, preparing sign-in sheets and name tags, etc.)

  • assist in the creation and maintenance of office electronic files

  • research for special projects

  • compare and proofread data

  • other duties and special assignments as assigned

Educational Value

Student will be presented with the opportunity to perform customer service and front-line duties, in addition to applying trouble-shooting and/or problem solving skills.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have exceptional organizational and communication skills, show attention to detail, be dependable and have good customer relation skills. Self-motivation and the flexibility to move from one function to another with little notice is required.

Students are expected to maintain the confidentiality of the office and effectively manage their time. Reasonable knowledge of and ability to use standard business software and computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google tools, Adobe Professional) and general office equipment is necessary. Candidates need to have the ability to work with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students and to follow both verbal and written instructions. 

Professional appearance is required and some previous office/receptionist experience is a plus. The hours worked for this position will be within the business hours of 9am – 5pm during Monday through Friday.  Exact hours worked are negotiable.
