Job Description

The Law Library is hiring Information Desk Assistants for Fall 2025 (August 24, 2025 – December 18, 2025).

  • Providing assistance to patrons in-person and over the phone at the central Law Library Information Desk
  • Helping patrons locate, check out, and return library materials
  • Answering routine questions about facilities, services, and item locations
  • Making appropriate referrals to reference staff and other Law School departments
  • Keeping accurate statistics about the types of questions received
  • Opening and closing the Law Library
  • Other duties as assigned

Hours: 8 hours per week – 20 hours per week
Work Study: This job is eligible for work-study.

Pay Rate: $16.00/hour - Law Students $18.00/hour

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• Must be actively enrolled as a University of Michigan student
• Must be able to work business hours (8am-5pm) and evening and late night hours (5pm-midnight), including weekends (Saturday and Sunday)
• Must have excellent interpersonal, communication, and public relations skills
• Must be responsible, dependable, punctual, and approachable

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Michigan Law students and University of Michigan students who have already received a JD degree are encouraged to apply
Hourly Rate $16.00/hour
