Job Description

Graduate Program Assistant, SLC Tutoring

The Science Learning Center (SLC) serves approximately 2,200 students each semester through its peer-led appointment-based and drop-in tutoring programs. The SLC seeks a graduate student to assist with administrative details and program development related to the peer tutoring program. Depending on the time of the semester, the Program Assistant’s duties might include:

  1. Assist in the tutor observation and evaluation process by attending tutoring sessions and providing feedback.

  2. Regularly monitor feedback survey results and share results with tutors.

  3. Create and distribute weekly program announcements each Wednesday via the Tutoring Program weekly newsletter in Mailchimp.

  4. Coordinate follow-up reminders for undergraduate student staff about missed requirements or deadlines.

  5. Track tutor progress toward CRLA Certification using Gradecraft.

  6. Review CRLA training submissions from tutors

  7. Assist in creating publicity materials via Canva

  8. Assist in representing SLC at campus events, class visits, resources fairs, and more.

  9. Coordinate with the Tutor Team Leaders (TTLs) to plan team-building events.

  10. Lead a Planning Committee of undergraduate student staff to plan the End of Year celebration, coordinating date, time, location, theme, and activities.

  11. Assist in data collection and analysis for End of Year Report

  12. Attend and assist in facilitating New Tutor Orientation

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • A current graduate student enrolled at UM

  • Ability to work 10-15 hours per week.

  • Ability to work some flexible hours, with potential for some evenings and weekends

  • Proficiency with Google Suite

Desired Qualifications

  • Pursuing a graduate degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Writing, or related fields.

  • Familiarity or experience with learning assistance programs (Study Groups, Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction)

  • Demonstrated interest in student development or academic support
