The Housing Support and Community Responsibility (HSCR) team includes 7 full-time staff and 11 student employees whose aim is to support residents through a restorative justice (RJ) lens as they navigate the challenges and expectations of living in Michigan Housing. Rooted in restorative practices (RP), RJ is a process that engages community members in conversations about harm and collective accountability — working with stakeholders to recognize, address, and restore harm that may have been caused by others' words or actions. The Community Circle Program is one way HSCR works to help students take accountability for their actions. The circle experience allows participants to explore the impact of harm and find collaborative ways to address it. The Community Circle Program is a peer-led RJ program in which student staff members facilitate meaningful dialogue with individuals and groups around harm, accountability, and repair. A primary responsibility of the HSCR Program Assistants will be to facilitate Community Circles and intake meetings with individual students. HSCR Program Assistants will be asked to assist with the assessment of the Community Circle Program and work on HSCR projects as needed from the HSCR Suite. This may include additional meetings with impacted parties, facilitating Community Impact Meetings, and other meetings as needed. This job has a start date of August 21, 2026. Training for this job will occur in-person. Student staff meetings will take place weekly throughout the 2026-2027 academic year on Tuesdays from 4:30 PM-6:00 PM. It is expected that all student staff members will attend all in-person trainings, weekly in-person student staff meetings, and weekly supervision meetings. |
