Job Description

The Housing Support and Community Responsibility (HSCR) team is made up of professional staff and student employees whose aim is to support residents as they navigate the challenges and expectations that come with living in Michigan Housing using a restorative justice lens. Rooted in restorative practices, restorative justice is a process that engages community members in conversations about harm and collective accountability. It involves working with stakeholders in our communities to recognize, address, and restore harm that may have been caused by others’ works or actions. One way HSCR works to hold students accountable for our Community Living Standards is through our Community Circle Program. These circles allow participants to explore the impact and find ways to address harm collaboratively. The Community Circle Program is a peer-led restorative justice program where student staff members facilitate circles to address concerns. HSCR Program Assistants and Community Circle Program Assistants facilitate the dialogue.

A primary responsibility of the Community Circle Program Assistants will be to assist with the facilitation of community circles. Community Circle Program Assistants may also be asked to facilitate different types of community circles to address floor concerns, help students repair harm, or explore various issues. Community Circle Program Assistants will be asked to assist with HSCR projects as needed from the HSCR Suite.

This job will have a start date in January 2026. The start date will be communicated to the selected candidate. In-person training for this job will occur. Student staff meetings will take place weekly throughout the 2025-2026 Academic year. It is expected that all student staff members will attend in-person training, our weekly in-person student staff meetings, and weekly supervision meetings with their supervisor.
