The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Michigan is hiring a student research assistant for a 10-15 hr/week paid position. The research assistant will support two CDC-funded projects focused on building the evidence base for youth firearm violence prevention. The ideal candidate will have an interest in the prevention of youth violence and community violence. The research assistant will receive proactive supervision and mentoring and will have the opportunity to participate in Emergency Department recruitment of participants. This position is located in Flint or Saginaw, Michigan. This position is a great opportunity for students interested in medical school or public health. Projects You Will Work On: · Project IntERact is using a technology-enhanced multi-session behavioral intervention to decrease risky firearm behaviors. This behavioral intervention combines remote therapy with the delivery of intervention content via a smartphone-based APP · Project SynERgy is using a technology-enhanced multi-session behavioral intervention to decrease violence among youth. This behavioral intervention combines remote therapy, artificial intelligence and daily survey’s to reduce risky violent behaviors (i.e. fighting, substance use and weapon carriage. · What You Will Do: · Recruit participants out of the Hurley or Covenant Emergency Department o Consent participants o Set up the app o Connect with the health coach o Document all paperwork |
