Job Description

Flex Teachers are essential members of our team, contributing to a nurturing and engaging learning environment. Their responsibilities include preparing nutritious snacks, maintaining clean and safe indoor and outdoor classroom spaces, and supporting both Apprentice and Mentor Teachers in delivering high-quality early childhood education aligned with our mission and vision. Candidates may bring a range of experience in early childhood education but should demonstrate a strong interest in learning and growing in the field. Flex Teachers may be called upon to substitute for other teachers as needed and are also responsible for routine cleaning and food preparation tasks. Preference will be given to candidates available at least two afternoons per week (12-6 PM or 2-6 PM).

Management for Flex Teachers

  • Reports to: Directly supervised by Mentor Teachers and reports to the Program Director.
  • Supervises: none

Roles & Responsibilities: Classroom support

  • Serves as the child care assistant and teaching assistant to mentor and apprentice teachers in carrying out daily tasks (diapering, feeding, basic documentation)
  • Provides mission aligned guidance and supervision to children
  • Complies with licensing and Apple Playschools regulations
  • Reports Abuse or Neglect as a mandated reporter
  • Provides occasional coverage for Apprentice or Mentor absences

Roles & Responsibilities: Caretaker for common areas

  • Has a sense of ownership of the program, and actively works to improve our community.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy educational environment
  • Completes food preparation, opening, midday and closing duties as assigned including cleaning and organizing
Educational Value
  • Gain valuable experience in early childhood development, care for young children, child-led educational practices, positive behavior guidance, and group management
  • Work hands-on in a classroom on every shift
  • Deepen customer service and communication skills on your teaching team and with families
  • Learn about and utilize developmentally-appropriate practices for either infants & toddlers (0-3) or preschool age children (3-5)
Job Requirements
  • Minimal experience with children or child care required, but reliability, flexibility, eagerness to learn, and positive team spirit are a must
  • Be able to comfortably bend, move around with young children, walk outside on uneven terrain, be outside in all weather conditions, and lift up to 25 pounds
  • Demonstrates interest in education and child development
  • Must be able to pass child abuse and neglect and criminal background checks
  • Current Adult and Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire (employer provides trainings at cost to employees)
  • Willingness and ability to comply with all rules, policies, and COVID-19 risk mitigation practices
Hourly Rate $15.00/hour to $15.75/hour
