Job Description

Student Life Technology Solutions is seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious student to work closely with our Web and Applications team to advance support of our websites and web applications. Our team currently manages approximately 40 websites, along with several web applications. You will be involved in many of the day-to-day operational support needs and advanced projects gaining experience in real-world web applications used by institutional websites. You will work with enterprise IT ticketing systems, custom content management system (CMS) implementations, in-house built web applications, and server-side management. Ideally you have some working understanding of these technologies and a desire to further learn and broaden your skills, experience, and understanding in these areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Technology Solutions development staff to assist in many operational tasks in basic website management.
     
  • Triage incoming requests in the departmental ticketing system - handling those as they become comfortable to do so, and assigning or getting assistance from the appropriate Technology Solutions staff if necessary.
     
  • Assist with testing and auditing of websites, whether with software tools or manually (understanding that this can sometimes be a repetitive process).
     
  • Audit websites and assist implementation of edits/features in Drupal and Wordpress (all future sites will be WP). Identify dead links, errors, and generate reports.
     
  • Assist in accessibility testing and remediation, applying accessibility standards to web sites and applications.
     
  • Assist in development and functional testing of our in-house web applications, as well as possibly assisting in group testing and collecting results to be analyzed.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • General technology skills (software and web technologies)
     
  • Basic understanding of HTML or other web coding languages (not necessarily fluent, but willing to learn)
     
  • Comfortable and capable of working remotely and in remote team environments
     
  • Ability to write clear, concise documentation
     
  • Comfortable presenting ideas/designs to the larger team for review

Helpful Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with website CMS (Drupal and Wordpress)
     
  • Familiarity with UI/UX testing
     
  • Working knowledge of other web coding languages (HTML, Javascript, PHP or other similar languages)
     
  • Web design/graphics/video functional understanding, and how best to utilize media for web distribution
     
  • Exposure to - or interest in learning - PHP, Symfony, Twig, Jquery, Postman, Figma
     
  • Knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards
