Primary Responsibilities • Answer inquires by telephone, e-mail, and G-Chat, and welcome walk-in traffic.
• Assist new students and their parents with the reservation process for upcoming orientation sessions.
• Assist with data management of orientation participants and administrative tasks.
• Be familiar with services and responsibilities of different programs within ONSP and the roles of senior staff; accurately respond to questions and concerns and make appropriate referrals.
• Be familiar with the structure and organization of the University of Michigan and be able to communicate information about the various academic units, support services, and resources in an accurate and unbiased manner.
• Assist with other tasks as needed to assist all the programs within the Office of New Student Programs. Expectations IRAs are expected to represent the University and ONSP in a consistently professional and responsible manner. They are required to be punctual, reliable, and conscientious in the performance of all responsibilities including learning and practicing inclusive customer service for new students, families, and the staff in ONSP. IRAs must follow all U-M and ONSP policies regarding confidentiality of student data. It is expected that they are willing to share ideas, improvements, and other thoughts with the staff. IRAs have the opportunity to work 10+ hours a week between the hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday during spring/summer (May-August 2025). There will also be mandatory monthly team meetings. The IRA role will work on-site in the Office of New Student Programs (2011 Student Activities Building, Ann Arbor). Paid employee training sessions and individual shifts will begin in April and will be scheduled around your class and personal commitments.
