Job Description

 The Michigan Medicine Gifts of Art program has a work-study position available for an Art Cart and Exhibits Program Assistant.  We are a dynamic, multifaceted arts program based in the University of Michigan Health System.  Gifts of Art offerings include nine rotating art galleries, the Art Cart (a lending library of art prints for patients), free weekly performances, bedside music and art, a symphony orchestra and more.

This work-study position will support the Art Cart program which utilizes volunteers to bring a selection of framed poster art to patients daily, allowing them to choose new artwork for their rooms.  This role will serve as a liaison between Art Cart volunteers, Gifts of Art, and the Volunteer services department.  The program assistant will lead the orientation and training of new Art Cart volunteers, track volunteer attendance and update schedules.  The program assistant will also fill special requests for artwork, when there is no coverage by volunteers. 

This work-study position may also provide general support for the Art Gallery Exhibit program.  

Educational Value

This position provides experience in the day-to-day functions of a dynamic, multifaceted arts program, as well as learning about the benefits of the inclusion of art in a healthcare setting and related fields.

Job Requirements

A successful candidate for this hospital-based position will have excellent communications skills to interact effectively with volunteers, team members, patients, and families. Also needed are excellent organizational skills and experience training and orienting small groups or individuals. Experience handling and installing artwork, along with Graphic art (Adobe InDesign and Photoshop) computer skills are a plus.  This is a great job for applicant with pre-med, public health or fine art interest.  We are looking for applicants with a work-study award for Fall/Winter 2026/2027.  Please send your resume and cover letter indicating your academic program, expected graduation year and listing your specific experience and skills to GiftsofArt@med.umich.edu.
