Job Description Interviewers will conduct a brief, pre-scripted survey during specified 2 hour periods with certain museum visitors as they are leaving the Jarod Lew exhibition. Interviewers are to complete all associated administrative duties to specified expectations, including tracking total number of visitors leaving, recording cooperation status and responses of intercepted visitors. This effort will take place at the Museum of Art starting February 23rd and ending on March 8th. Individual shifts are listed below the responsibilities. Duties and Responsibilities Present yourself and the Museum of Art positively by demonstrating courtesy and respect. Communicate effectively with museum visitors and staff. Complete interviews with museum visitors in-person using standardized interviewing techniques and legibly completing paper documents and forms. Display an understanding of study content and concepts. Demonstrate full technical competency and understanding of methods and procedures associated with selecting respondents, interviewing them, and completing administrative activities. Work in the University of Michigan Museum of Art, staffing an exit during a predefined block of time. Maintain the security and confidentiality of all data and materials. Return university documents and equipment to a museum shop staff or a secure, private, and locked area. Complete assignments within specified goals and deadlines. Meet or exceed intercept survey standards and metrics. Maintain regular communication with museum staff coordinating the intercept effort.. Abide by all protocols for confidentiality and safety. Other related duties as assigned. Saturday 3/8 noon-2pm Sunday 3/30 1-3pm A 30 minute training session Date/Time based on interviewer availability prior to their first shift.
Educational Value

Students will gain experience fielding on-site research interviews and learning how to adhere to research protocols.

Students will gain experience working at a museum in a visitor facing role.

Students will increase their confidence and communication skills by interacting with museum visitors they do not know.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Professional and approachable demeanor demonstrated through courtesy and respect.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to work collaboratively with others.

  • Ability to screen/interview individuals as they are leaving the museum

  • Available to work 10 intercept shifts as detailed above.

  • Maintain a flexible schedule that includes work during certain days and including weekends.

  • Work independently without frequent in-person supervision to meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail.

  • Receptive to receiving constructive feedback to improve quality of data collection efforts and interviewing techniques.

Hourly Rate $20.00/hour
