Temporary student employees will be offered an opportunity to work for one of the teams in the Department of Pharmacy Services, depending on the need and availability of positions and work shifts · Examples of areas/teams may include (but may not be limited to): o B2/Central Pharmacy o Children’s & Women’s Pharmacy o Inpatient Pharmacy o Infusion Pharmacy o Ambulatory Care Pharmacy o OR Pharmacy o Specialty Pharmacy o Pharmacy Management · Basic Functions and Responsibilities: Perform activities relating to or supporting the preparation, compounding, packaging, storing, recording, processing, dispensing, labeling and delivery of medications and pharmaceutical supplies under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, licensed pharmacy technician, licensed pharmacy intern, and/or supervisor · Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities – Essential Requirements include, but may not be limited to the following: o Demonstrates proficiency and skill with pharmacy and health system information systems o Accurately interpret prescriptions and information on medication labels and containers o Participate in the documentation of patient care activities within the health record o Accurately, prepare, compound, and label sterile and non-sterile medications for dispensing o Stock and maintain pharmacy inventory o Travel significant distances on a daily basis o Maintains, dispenses, stores controlled substances and associated records as required o Prepare and deliver investigational drugs per research protocols o Assist with use of automated dispensing cabinets (Pyxis®) o Participate in audits and inspections which support regulatory and compliance standards o Effectively communicate with other pharmacy team members, physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals, health-system employees, patients, families, and visitors o Respond to internal and external customers demonstrating service excellence o Transport medication safely and securely o Resolve routine medication-related issues and ensure medication transactions are processed accurately and appropriately (insurance and cash-handling where applicable) o Investigate and resolve routine medication history and reconciliation discrepancies o Other duties as assigned by supervisor or pharmacist to assist with preparation and delivery of patient medications and other patient care needs Ability to meet all of the above qualifications and requirements with or without reasonable accommodation o ~ 6-weeks (full-time), or ~ 240 hours during the summer (usually in May-June, or as academic and personal commitments will allow) o ~ Successfully complete core pharmacy technician training and area-specific training (as required for specific job expectations) |
