Temporary student employees will be offered an opportunity to work for one of the teams in the Department of Pharmacy Services, depending on the need and availability of positions and work shifts · Examples of areas/teams may include (but may not be limited to): o B2/Central Pharmacy o Children’s & Women’s Pharmacy o Inpatient Pharmacy (University Hospital/Central Pharmacy) o Oncology/Infusion Pharmacy o Ambulatory Care/Outpatient Pharmacy o Cardiovascular Center and OR Pharmacy o Specialty Pharmacy o Pharmacy Management o Research Pharmacy o Compounding Compliance Team o Emergency Department Pharmacy o HomeMed Home Infusion Pharmacy o Medication Use Policy Team o Transitions of Care Pharmacy Team · Basic Functions and Responsibilities: Perform activities relating to or supporting the preparation, compounding, packaging, storing, recording, processing, dispensing, labeling and delivery of medications and pharmaceutical supplies under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, licensed pharmacy technician, licensed pharmacy intern, licensed pharmacy resident and/or supervisor · Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities – Essential Requirements include, but may not be limited to the following: o Demonstrates proficiency and skill with pharmacy and health system information systems o Enter medication orders into operational software and databases o Accurately interpret prescriptions and information on medication labels and containers o Participate in the documentation of patient care activities within the health record o Accurately, prepare, compound, label, and package sterile medications, injections, non-sterile medications, and parenteral and non-parenteral hazardous substances for dispensing; this may include the use of technology including, but not limited to, automated compounding devices o Accurately fill and deliver unit dose medications o Stock and maintain pharmacy inventory o Travel significant distances on a daily basis o Accurately maintain, dispense, store, and distribute controlled substances and associated records as required o Prepare and deliver investigational drugs per research protocols o Assist with use of automated dispensing cabinets and machines (e.g., Pyxis®, RobotRx®, ScriptPro®, etc.), including, but not limited to, filling and maintaining automated dispensing cabinets on patient care units o Participate in facility environmental monitoring, audits, inspections, and other quality assurance/quality improvement activities which support regulatory and compliance standards o Effectively communicate with other pharmacy team members, physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals, health-system employees, patients, families, and visitors o Respond to internal and external customers demonstrating service excellence o Transport medication safely and securely o Assist with management of inventory levels o Respond to inquiries via telephone and secure messaging o Resolve routine medication-related issues and ensure medication transactions are processed accurately and appropriately, including, but not limited to, billing, insurance, prior authorizations, and cash-handling, where applicable o Investigate and resolve routine medication history and reconciliation discrepancies o Other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or pharmacist to assist with the medication use process and other patient care needs o Ability to meet all of the above qualifications and requirements with or without reasonable accommodation The percentage mix of these duties will vary depending on the functional area where the employee is assigned. o ~ 6-weeks (full-time), or ~ 240 hours during the summer (usually in May-June, or as academic and personal commitments will allow) o ~ Successfully complete core pharmacy technician training and area-specific training (as required for specific job expectations) |
