The Pathways to Public Health Program at the University of Michigan School of Public Health aims, in part, to expand access to a public health education, particularly for those traditionally underrepresented in the field. Fostering a diverse student body, and ultimately a diverse public health workforce, is vital to eliminating health disparities and achieving health equity. As such, our school is committed to making a public health education accessible to anyone who wants to help respond to the world’s toughest public health challenges. Michigan Summer Academy for Public Health Immersion, Research, and Exploration (M-SAPHIRE) is the grade 9-12 program under the Pathways to Public Health office at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. M-SAPHIRE serves to expose pre-college students to public health as a profession. Pathways to Public Health M-SAPHIRE is seeking an engaging, reliable, organized, proactive, and team-oriented individual to serve in a key seasonal role with emphasis on academic and event support for 4 weeks in summer 2024. The Opportunity Program Assistants are responsible for assisting with the implementation of M-SAPHIRE instructional and experiential activities. Program assistants need to be flexible and willing to adapt to unique challenges, accepting tasks as they arise. Program Assistants play a key role in supporting M-SAPHIRE program, specifically by supporting the program, leadership, and participant needs. The Work Attend staff onboarding and staff meetings. Participate in the implementation of the following M-SAPHIRE Activities: M-SAPHIRE Family Orientation. Experiential activities with the participants during the program. Assist with the creation of program close video.
Attend all instructional sessions for M-SAPHIRE and assist the instructor during class as needed. Lead, engage and coach a small cohort of pre-college students as they complete academic tasks. Maintaining attendance & participation records. Assist with emergency situations involving participants. Responsible for supervising youth in compliance with U-M Children on campus guidelines. Contribute to end of program reporting. Other tasks as assigned by the Program Director and/or Program Manager
Supervision Received Program Assistant(s) are directly supervised by the Pathways to Public Health Program Manager. Terms of Employment June 26 - July 28 ~20-30 hours per week You are expected to work 4 hours per day: June 24-28, July 1, July 2 You are expected to work 6 hours per day: July 8-24 You will be entitled to two 15-minute breaks (1 Morning, 1 Afternoon) Lunch at Mosher Jordan Hall is included in your hourly rate
You are expected to work 2 hours per day: July 25 and July 26 There will be no work on July 3-July 5
