Job Description

The Center for Campus Involvement (CCI) seeks motivated and talented graduate student to work as a Graduate Intern Advisor for the 2026-2027 academic year. Graduate Interns report to professional staff and are integral members of the CCI team. Intern positions are rooted in Student Affairs philosophy and are committed to student development. Interns provide leadership, advisement, supervision, and direction for student leaders and student organizations.

  • Co-direct and directly advise a portion of the seventeen sponsored student organizations through the University Activities Center, including program/event planning, budget management, 1:1s with student leaders, calendar management, and assessment.

  • Provide onsite support for programs and events planned by the student organizations, including occasional evenings and weekends.

  • Supervise the executive board student directors, including facilitation of 1:1s, project oversight, and M-Lead conversations

  • Assist in developing training opportunities and programs for students in UAC.

  • Assist with other CCI and UAC programs as needed

  • Attend CCI Staff meetings (as schedule allows) 

  • Assess programs and services, collecting relevant data to support office strategic priorities

 
Educational Value

Graduate intern advisors will learn to advise student organizations, develop mentoring relationships, assist groups in understanding campus policies, plan a wide range of on-campus programs, conduct assessment and evaluation, and create a series of learning and development opportunities for students. Additionally, interns will work in a setting that prioritizes fostering community on campus.

CCI is an exciting office with a high volume of direct student interaction and relationship-building. There are opportunities to be involved with many different programs, projects, and events, which allow interns flexibility to customize their internship experience to meet their personal and professional developmental goals. It is a unique department with a focus on building a strong community on campus.

Job Requirements

Candidates must be current or incoming U of M graduate student committed to working with students and have an appreciation for the college student development process. Candidates must be able to interact and work effectively with students and staff. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are also a necessity. It is preferred that candidates will possess experience in college student life, either as a student leader or professional, and have good leadership and management skills. Experience in volunteer service is also desirable. Successful candidates will be organized, resourceful, creative, self-motivated, flexible, responsible, reliable, detail-oriented, and willing to engage with multiple types of audiences.
