Job Description

The successful applicant will assist in the daily operations and routine maintenance duties at the Belleville Lake boathouse, under the direction of the Rigger and Operations Assistant for U-M Women’s Rowing.

Typical duties shall include: supporting and communicating with coaches during practice, refueling launches, cleaning boats, docks and facilities, helping to move boats, docks and other heavy and awkward objects, performing minor repairs to buildings and equipment, emptying trash and recycling containers, completing routine daily/weekly/monthly checklists, and completing minor landscaping projects.

The work schedule revolves around the boathouse practice schedule, which is: 6 ~ 9 am during the Fall, 3 ~ 6 pm during the Winter and Spring, and 7 ~ 11 am most Saturdays. Additional projects can be accomplished outside of practice times, built around your availability. When the team is practicing indoors, November ~ February, there will be opportunities to work on campus cleaning and maintaining equipment.

Because this job is located off-campus, applicants will need to provide or arrange their own transportation, to the boathouse in Van Buren Park (14 miles from South Campus).

Educational Value

Students will learn to understand and appreciate how to work behind the scenes of a highly motivated and competitive team, how best to support the student athletes, coaches and staff. Further educational opportunities include learning carbon fiber shell repair, painting techniques, liasing with university facilities support, regatta operations, travel logistics, and many other procedures.

Job Requirements

High School Education or GED.

Ability to lift and carry 100 lbs for short distances.

Preferred requirements include: good time management and communication skills, rowing experience, personal transportation, and 1+ year of building and/or grounds maintenance experience.

Owning a personal vehicle is not necessary, but with more flexibility you can better take advantage of work opportunities that are outside of the practice schedule.

Background check is required, and mandatory annual online safety trainings must be kept up to date.
