Job Description

Student Services Assistants will help the International Center plan and execute student-centered social and cultural programs.  Assisting with these programs includes:

  • Setting up, managing registration, and clean-up of monthly  signature programs (International Coffee Hour, Birthday Celebration, 60 Minutes Around the Globe).

  • Assisting with management of large-scale IC student programs (International Wellness Fair, Taste of Culture, International Student Formal)

  • Planning and executing new student-led social and cultural events. 

  • Planning and leading cultural trips for international students 

  • Supporting new international students through Orientation programs.

  • Assessment and evaluation of IC Programs.

  • Creating marketing materials for IC programs and events.

 

About the International Center (IC): 

The IC serves a diverse population of more than 12,000 international students, scholars, employees and their dependents, representing roughly 150 countries on campus in the fall of 2025.  This work includes signature programs for cross-cultural engagement, programming to assist with cultural adjustment, as well as immigration advising services and workshops.

 

Additionally, the IC serves as a resource for all U-M students looking to gain education abroad experiences before and after graduation. The IC provides advising and programming to prepare students for their international experiences. Additionally, the IC hosts the Peace Corps office and administers the Peace Corps Prep Certificate program through our office.

 
Educational Value

As a Student Services Assistant with the IC, you will be presented with a tremendous opportunity to deepen your understanding of intercultural competence and communication and acquire skills to address audiences in a variety of ways.  Students in this role become more familiar with international student support services.

Job Requirements

Ideal candidates will be reliable, creative, and committed to the mission of the International Center. Candidates should have an interest in event planning, be detail oriented, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

 

Ideal candidates will have 5-10 hours of availability between 10am-6pm Wednesday-Friday. Additional evening and weekend hours may be required. 

 

All student services assistants will be required to attend a weekly one-hour meeting to plan and discuss upcoming events/programs. This time is paid and will be determined once all students are hired. 

 

This position is open to undergraduate or graduate students at U-M Ann Arbor. Work study is not required.

 
 
Hourly Rate $15.00/hour to $17.00/hour
