About the FSL History Project: The University of Michigan Fraternity Sorority Life (FSL) History Project was inspired from the University of Michigan Spectrum Center and other BIG Ten Fraternity & Sorority Life departments as they have presented projects sharing the rich culture of student life in their respective campuses. In 2025, FSL will be celebrating its 180th anniversary at the University of Michigan. Under the guidance of Fraternity Sorority Life and its partners, this project will focus on sharing and highlighting fraternity & sorority life history, stories and experiences of the past and present, as well as providing opportunities for scholarly research. In addition, this project will focus on unearthing a more complete history of fraternity and sorority life from those organizations on the margins, specifically culturally based fraternal organizations and other fraternal organizations that serve marginalized students at the University of Michigan. By diversifying the University of Michigan archives with experiences not often represented in library records or academia, we have the opportunity to connect intergenerational communities and elevate the value of storytelling in education.
