Job Description

The Concerts & Events Office in the School of Music, Theatre & Dance is currently accepting applications for multiple open student employment positions. We offer a wide array of jobs: from reception work, to rehearsal/backstage support, to more specialized event support roles. These positions specifically serve the music section of SMTD, though we welcome individuals from all backgrounds with an interest in event support and production. More details on the individual positions can be found below:

 

Reception Crew ($15.00 an hour)

Provide support to SMTD students, faculty, and staff by overseeing IT equipment checkout, piano key checkout, and redirecting specialized questions to the appropriate staff and departments. Take on additional duties as assigned by the different facets of the Concerts & Events Office and help create a warm and friendly environment at our reception desk. Work is solely located in the Concerts & Events Office in the Earl V. Moore Building on North Campus.

 

Daily Operations Assistants ($16.00 an hour)

Provide support to the SMTD large ensembles during regular rehearsal periods (Monday - Friday). Ensure appropriate setup and condition of designated rehearsal spaces–ensure proper security and storage of pianos and keyboard instruments–create a clean and comfortable rehearsal space for students and faculty. Work is primarily located in rehearsal and performance halls in the North Campus buildings.

 

Concert Crew ($16.00 an hour)

Provide front of house, onstage, and backstage support at SMTD-affiliated concerts, events, and conferences in the north and central campus venues. Set up all necessary equipment as instructed–post signs and programs–set up and clear dressing rooms–provide onsite logistical and stage support with a high degree of flexibility and attentiveness. Shifts are split between Central Campus venues and the smaller venues on North Campus.

 

Audio/Recording Assistants ($18.00 an hour)

Provide recording support and assist with live sound support for concerts. Set up recording equipment (recorder, microphones, stands, cables) and deliver files. Assist in live sound setup/teardown and assist during rehearsals/shows with additional duties.

 

Stage Manager ($19.00 per hour)

Manage backstage operations for events and performances including, but not limited to: faculty recitals, guest recitals, lectures and masterclasses, and chamber department events. Oversee student front of house managers and stage crew members. Serve as the main point of contact onsite for any assigned event. Work with faculty, staff, guests, and student performers to ensure a successful and seamless event. Shifts are split between Central Campus venues and the smaller venues on North Campus. Note that Stage Managers are a part of our Concert Crew core, but are available to sign up for additional shifts at the adjusted rate of pay.

Job Requirements

Reception Crew

Organizational and detail oriented qualities are preferred. Must have 9-12 hour availability on a weekly basis, and exercise patience and flexibility when approached by faculty, staff, and performers, consistently demonstrating reliability and good customer service. Administrative and/or customer service experience is a plus.

 

Daily Operations Assistant

Ability to work for short periods of time during standard business hours (9AM-5PM, Monday-Friday) is crucial. Must be able to work on projects independently based on provided instructions and materials, move and lift chairs and other equipment/instruments, exercise patience and flexibility when approached by faculty, staff, and students, consistently demonstrating reliability and good customer service. Prior knowledge of large ensemble instrumentation and configuration is a plus.

 

Concert Crew

Variable work schedule is required with evening and weekend hours assigned according to availability. Must be able to move and lift chairs and other equipment/instruments up to 50lbs. and exercise patience and flexibility when approached by faculty, staff, and performers, consistently demonstrating reliability and good customer service. Must demonstrate resourcefulness and attention to detail. Prior experience with concert production and/or event planning is a plus.

 

Audio/Recording Assistants

Ability to work evenings and weekend. Willigness to follow setup diagrams/instructions, sometimes stand for long periods of time, and move live sound equipment. Ability to work alone and set up simple recording gear and capture live performances. Prior live sound/audio equipment/AV equipment set up experience and experience involving troubleshooting and problem solving is a plus.

 

Stage Manager

In addition to all the listed requirements for Concert Crew--demonstrated leadership ability among your peers and colleagues. Ability to succeed in a fast-paced work environment, making important decisions in real-time. At least two years of experience with concert production and/or event planning is required.
