Job Description

Living ArtsEngine is seeking a graduate student to serve as the LAE Program Assistant for the 2025-2026 academic year. This position is ideal for, but not exclusive to, returning Living ArtsEngine students who would like to continue supporting the Living ArtsEngine program while gaining valuable leadership skills. 


The LAE Program Assistant will primarily assist with the planning, development, execution, and administrative duties for Living ArtsEngine first-year and alumni programming during the academic year. 


The primary responsibilities for this position include:

First-Year Programming (70%): 

  • Develop and oversee programming content in collaboration with the LAE Program Director
  • Create and disseminate event graphics
  • Send weekly programming communications to the community
  • Manage programming calendar
  • Monitor and track event attendance
  • Create content for social media platforms and monthly newsletter in collaboration with the ArtsEngine Marketing Assistant
  • Moderate Discord server and social media platforms
  • Assist during monthly Community Meetings, Makeathons, LAE Symposium, etc.
  • Document Info Fair participants 
  • General office duties as assigned

Alumni Programming (30%): 

  • Develop and execute monthly alumni social activities 
  • Assist with the planning and execution of the annual alumni reunion(s)
  • Assist with the development of the Alumni Newsletter 
  • Collaborate with the ArtsEngine Alumni Board as directed 
  • Assist with ArtsEngine alumni initiatives as directed 

 

Hours:

10 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during office hours 9am-5pm (option for later work if desired) with required occasional evening/weekend work for Living ArtsEngine events.

 

About Living ArtsEngine: 

Living ArtsEngine (LAE) is a creative interdisciplinary Michigan Learning Community housed in Bursley Hall and is supported by the North Campus schools and colleges. LAE brings together first-year students in the visual and performing arts, engineering, architecture and other disciplines who are interested in exploring creative expression and problem-solving through hands-on making experiences. Living ArtsEngine’s mission is to spur and support collaborative, creative work across disciplinary boundaries and to provide an open and inspiring community in which to generate and pursue new ideas. 

Educational Value

Students will gain programming, event planning and marketing skills from this position. 

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Current University of Michigan graduate student 
  • Relevant experience with higher education programming
  • Responsible, resourceful, and dependable 
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively 
  • Interest in interdisciplinary student programming
  • Interest in student engagement
  • Willingness to learn new software as needed

Desired Qualifications:

  • Former Living ArtsEngine community member
  • Undergraduate degree in the visual or performing arts, engineering, architecture, information, or related field
  • Experience with interdisciplinary student programming
  • Demonstrated success with engaging students 
  • Graphic design experience
  • Demonstrated success with social media and email marketing
  • Familiarity with software and social media platforms such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, MailChimp, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Discord 
Hourly Rate $20.00/hour
