The Ann Arbor YMCA Child Development Center is hiring  part-time assistant School Age teachers. We believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future success. That's why our childcare programs are staffed with people who understand the cognitive, physical and social development of kids, the need children have to feel connected and supported in trying new things and the caring and reinforcement parents and families need to help each other.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Child Care Director and in accordance with the mission and purpose of the Ann Arbor YMCA, the Assistant Teacher – School Age assists the Lead Teacher in: guiding children through an age-appropriate curriculum for ages 5 to 14 that develops self-help skills and instills the Y values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility; maintaining a thorough understanding and knowledge of the child care programming of the Ann Arbor YMCA and will assist the Lead Teacher in the daily upkeep of the classrooms and its contents. 

 

POSITION FACTS:

Has a flexible schedule between the working hours of 2:00-6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Must be available to work a minimum or 15-20 hours per week.

Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. 
  • At least one year’s experience of working with children and families
  • Must be able to learn and use YMCA specific software within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a chauffeur’s license is required.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification strongly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, flexibility and an ability to work in a team setting are required.
  • Must have physical examination, including satisfactory TB test six (6) months prior to beginning work or 30 days after required.
  • Must have clean record of child abuse and neglect, as required by the Department of Human Services of Michigan
  • A patient, high energy and goal-oriented attitude is essential.
  • Ability to be responsive to the needs, wants and interests of both the parents and youth enrolled in the YMCA Offsite Child Care programming.
  • Multi-lingual ability is preferred.

 

Hourly Rate $15.50/hour
