Student Accessibility and Accommodation Services (SAAS) is a student-centered unit within the Division of Student Life whose work is guided by best-practice standards and interventions utilizing a multidimensional model of student well-being. SAAS oversees three key resources; Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD), the Adaptive Sports and Fitness program (ASF), & Testing Accommodation Centers (TAC), and accessibility by providing support services, advocacy and academic accommodations to students with disabilities. SAAS is strongly committed to outreach services to the academic community at large, and promoting awareness of disability issues and providing support for equal access for all students. SAAS is a partner to students, faculty and staff in the pursuit of developing leaders and citizens who will challenge the present and enrich the future. Job Summary The Accommodation Specialists team are an integral part of the work of SSD in supporting the implementation of accommodations. The Accessible Media Specialist is responsible for the acquiring and converting of Textbooks and Course Materials to accessible standards, the processing of caption requests from instructors, and the managing, inventorying, and maintenance of our assistive technology offerings. The Communications Specialist is responsible for scheduling sign language interpreters, sending schedules to CART providers, recruiting peer notetakers and managing the scheduling, placement and maintenance of adaptive furniture for students. The Student Services Assistant will assist in converting of text materials to an accessible standard and the labeling and inventorying of assistive technology under the supervision of the Accessible Media Specialist. The Student Services Assistant will assist with the scheduling of CART services and Interpreters, the labeling, distribution, and collection of adaptive furniture and check the quality of notetaker submitted notes under the supervision of the Communication Specialist. The Student Services Assistant will assist the front desk Administrative Assistant by answering phones and greeting visitors (parents, students and others) to the Services for Student with Disabilities (SSD) office. Responsibilities Accommodations Support (80%) Support accessible materials program by converting text materials to accessible standards. Support Communication access services, such as CART and Sign Language Interpreting, by helping scheduling services. Assist in managing adaptive furniture services, including labeling, inventorying, and delivery. Support the SSD front desk Administrative Assistant including answering phones and greeting visitors (parents, students and others) to our office. Support management and inventory of Assistive Technology. Support notetaking services by helping identify notetakers, and checking the quality of notetaker submitted notes to ensure they meet the necessary standards.
