Library Student Assistant (Circulation and Access Services)

Position Description:

We are looking for friendly students who enjoy customer service work in a library setting.  You will be assisting visitors with all circulation needs, answering questions about the library and campus, and referring patrons to various library services. Training in library systems will be provided. If you enjoy working with people and want to learn more about library services around campus, please apply!

Schedule: These positions will begin as soon as January 5th and last through the winter semester. Students will be assigned a regular weekly schedule that runs through the end of the semester.  Students may continue working into future semesters by mutual agreement.  

We will prioritize hiring students whose weekly availability includes times during these hours:

  • Weekday mornings (8:00am-Noon)
  • Weeknights (7:00pm-Midnight)
  • Saturdays (10:00am-6:00pm)
  • Sundays (1:00pm-Midnight)

Location:  Hatcher Graduate Library and Shapiro Undergraduate Library

Job Requirements

Requirements: 

  • Must be able to provide friendly assistance to library visitors. 
  • Must be willing to learn about library and campus resources and accurately relay this information to patrons.
  • Must be dependable, on time, and communicative in the workplace and written communications with library staff. 
  • Able to maintain attention to detail, organize information and materials, and prioritize responsibilities while assisting patrons. 
  • Welcoming and helpful while working with staff, colleagues, and library patrons.
  • Given the public-facing nature of this position, you may at times be expected to communicate with emergency services personnel or public security. Further details regarding this expectation will be provided upon hire.

Desired qualifications: 

  • Previous customer service experience in a public-facing role is a plus.
Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
Hours 8.0 to 15.0 hours per week
Time Frame Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer
Start Date Monday, January 5, 2026
End Date May continue into future semesters by mutual agreement.
