Job Description

The Hopwood Awards Program of the Department of English Language & Literature is seeking to hire a part-time work-study assistant to work with the Hopwood Program Manager and Hopwood Program Associate to support the work of the Hopwood Program for the 2025-26 academic year. This position will provide administrative support across a variety of tasks: 

  • Maintain the Hopwood Library and staff the Hopwood Room, providing assistance to visitors and communicating with library patrons.
  • Support promotion of the Hopwood Awards writing contests and Hopwood Program events by creating, editing, and/or disseminating promotional materials.
  • Help plan, promote, and facilitate a variety of in-person and virtual events, including the weekly Hopwood Tea, Hopwood submissions workshops, the annual Pass the Mic virtual reading, the Hopwood Awards Ceremony and the Hopwood Reading.
  • Help maintain the Hopwood website.
This work-study position is for 8-10 hours per week. A limited hybrid work arrangement may be possible after on-boarding, but the majority of hours will be in-person. Position will begin in late August/early September and continue through the end of April, 2026. Availability for both Fall and Winter semesters, and availability on Thursday afternoons from 2:30 to 5:30, is required.

Required Qualifications for the Hopwood Program Assistant

  • Ability to work independently

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Prior experience of multitasking while meeting deadlines

  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment

  • Excellent software skills with Microsoft Office applications, Google tools, and website tools

Desired qualifications:

  

  • Prior work experience in a library setting

  • Experience editing and updating websites (AEM a plus)

  • Interest in contemporary literature and literary communities

Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
