Job Description

Adaptable Conflict Resolution (ACR) is a voluntary restorative program which supports students, staff, faculty, and community members who are experiencing conflict and seeking resolution. Participants are invited to engage in a spectrum of pathways which include (but are not limited to) conflict coaching, mediation, circle processes, and shuttle diplomacy. ACR is a restorative justice-informed process for addressing harm and conflict.

This position is a key part of OSCR’s work to Build Trust, Promote Justice, and Teach Peace on campus.  As an OSCR Program Assistant, you will embody the philosophies and principles of restorative justice and conflict transformation and have competence and expertise in working with various populations on campus. You will have the opportunity to facilitate all OSCR programs, with a focus on the facilitation, coordination, and management of the Adaptable Conflict Resolution Program.

Responsibilities

Program Implementation 
Engage as a facilitator of the ACR Portfolio which includes ACR program and Conflict Education
Support the Assistant Director, Program Manager, and other staff in the daily function of the ACR Portfolio
Conduct case management using the Advocate by Symplicity database
Coordinate and implement policies, procedures, programs, and services that allow the campus community to develop knowledge of self and others, navigate their educational environment to achieve their desired outcomes, and evaluate the role they wish to play as contributing members of society.
Provide appropriate resources to ensure care of self and others during ACR program engagement and termination

Program Development and Research 
Consult with all OSCR staff to evaluate and improve all OSCR services to ensure they effectively meet evidence-based, restorative, and trauma-informed criteria.
Collaborate with direct supervisor, ACR program team, and other OSCR staff to regularly evaluate and improve the ACR program to ensure they effectively serve all campus communities
Engage in regular professional development opportunities to increase capacity to provide trauma-informed, empathetic, and accessible support to members of Michigan communities.
Contribute to the innovation and growth of the ACR portfolio through research and informed practice.
Communicate directly and maintain connections with ACR program participants 

Other Administrative Responsibilities 
Comply with OSCR staff on regulations and laws related to the work of OSCR, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Clery Act, and regulations under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
Comply with and maintain education on policies and laws relating to Sexual and Gender-Based Misconduct, including The University of Michigan Policy Sexual and Gender-Based Misconduct.
Provide logistical support, including scheduling and event bookings, for all training events (including ACR program events /Conflict Education / Staff / Student Staff Training, Arbiter Training, Sanction Board Training, etc.).
Provide appropriate referrals for students to other Student Life/community resources when assistance required is beyond the scope of OSCR work.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Office of Student Conflict Resolution.

Educational Value

 

  • Facilitators will build listening, inquiry, and public speaking skills

    Facilitators will have an increased understanding of justice structures.. 

    Facilitators will gain conflict resolution experience that is applicable to leadership positions and interpersonal relationships.

    Facilitators will receive training and regular practice in Motivational Interviewing.

    Experience designing, planning, and implementing events, workshops, projects, etc.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge areas include but are not limited to student development, trauma-informed practices, ethical development, social identity development, leadership development, community building, restorative justice, conflict resolution theory, motivational interviewing, and related theories of human motivation, change, and development.

  • Demonstrated competency in database management

     

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. 

  • Previous experience in conflict resolution, alternative resolution, restorative justice practices, Title IX case management, trauma-informed care, and alcohol & other drug harm reduction practices.

  • Knowledge of federal reporting obligations, including Clery Act requirements.

  • Previous experience utilizing the Advocate by Symplicity student conduct database system.

  • Demonstrated expertise in working with diverse populations 

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organization and program design skills. 

  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish tasks autonomously and efficiently.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and exercise sound decision-making.

Hourly Rate $19.00/hour
