Job Description

Student Graphic Designer 

The U-M student in this position will act as a part-time graphic designer for the University of Michigan Enrollment Management Marketing and Communications (MarCom) team, with a focus on creating eye-catching graphics to accompany social media posts as well as assisting the MarCom staff and the multimedia designer with a variety of other projects using a mix of existing design templates and original creative concepts.

This position will be mostly remote with regular check-in meetings. Hours are flexible depending on project deadlines (5-10 hours per week, on average).

As part of the application, candidates should include a link to a portfolio (website or shareable folder of labeled examples) highlighting at least three previous design projects completed in Adobe Creative Cloud applications. One project must highlight the use of Adobe InDesign.

Work is performed under the supervision of the OEM Multimedia Designer and the Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications.

 
Educational Value

Students will gain skills in graphic design and creative marketing, including:

  • Marketing collateral production and designing within an established brand

  • Working with a staff designer, including brainstorming and critique

  • Working within a collaborative marketing team

  • Researching design trends

  • Time/project management

  • Layout and typography

  • Develop pieces to add to a portfolio or resume

  • Refine skills in Adobe Creative Cloud and other applications

Job Requirements

Requirements for the Job: 

  • Experience designing both print and digital pieces

  • Experience working in Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically Illustrator and InDesign), and access to a computer capable of running these applications

  • Interest in graphic design, branding, and accessible design techniques

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and time management skills

  • Attention to detail and a desire to learn through constructive feedback

  • Interest in the University of Michigan, student life, and prospective students

  • Must be a current U-M undergraduate student

  • Ability to work in a project management system

Hourly Rate $15.00/hour to $17.00/hour
