Job Description

The School of Nursing at the University of Michigan School is seeking an experienced, positive, highly motivtaed, and organized person to work with a growing research team who also has a commitment to contributing to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for all members of our community. The Research Assistant will work with the principal investigator and other research team members to efficiently carry out a range of tasks associated with qualitative and quantitative data, including data collection, database management, basic data analysis, and other general research duties related to project operations. This position is expected to work both independently and with other members of the research team. The position would involve work related to research on disasters and preparedness among vulnerable populations, specifically wildfire smoke preparedness in Western United States nursing homes.

What You'll Do

  • Call healthcare centers to administer telephone survey.
  • Assist with general data related activities including organizing and managing project databases; creating electronic surveys; performing data cleaning and creating databases from electronic survey data.
  • Assist with qualitative data research activities including transcribing, coding and analyzing qualitative data.
  • Assist with the recruitment and enrollment of participants; track study participants and monitor completion of data collection.
  • Assist with literature reviews and writing sections of working papers.
  • Perform additional research duties as assigned.
Educational Value

To gain experience and sharpen skills working with a Principal Investigator on a research project.

Job Requirements

Skills You Have

  • Coursework in public health, nursing, environmental sciences, sociaology, psychology, social work, or related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to manage time, organize and complete multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to be self-directed and work independently within a team of researchers.
  • Strong computer skills and interest in learning and training in new software are critical.

Skills we would also appreciate

  • Previous experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Data management experience and experience with data analyses.
  • Experience with Qualitrics and other survey data collection tools.
  • Experience using Zotero reference management software.
  • Interest in working in disaster research.
  • Background/experience in implementation research.
Hourly Rate $20.00/hour
Hours 4.0 to 8.0 hours per week
