Job Summary

We are seeking a self-motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant (RA) to join our dynamic team working on the research project, “Corporate Biodiversity Footprint,” based at the School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) and the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. The team is led by Dr. Kai Zhu (associate professor at SEAS), Dr. Brian Weeks (assistant professor at SEAS), Dr. Eric Zou (assistant professor at Ross), and Dr. Chang Wang (post-doc research fellow at Ross and SEAS). The successful candidate will be working on collecting data on biodiversity using remote-sensing and geospatial techniques. The data to be collected may include Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) and The North American Breeding Bird Survey (BBS), etc. The specific tasks may include data download, data aggregation (through species accumulation curve, for example), and data merge based on geospatial coordinates.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in biodiversity and geospatial data organization, contribute to high-impact projects, potential for co-authorship on publications, and work alongside experienced researchers and faculty.

Job Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Data collection and analysis in R, using techniques of remote sensing and geospatial data science
  • Participate in project team meetings and contribute to the development of research plans and projects
  • 10-20 working hours per week 

 

Qualifications

  • Current graduate student in geospatial data science, remote sensing, sustainability, or a related discipline
  • Strong skills and background in geographical data science
  • Proficiency in R
