Job Description

Photography and Video Intern: (Hours per week: As Needed)

U-M Biomedical Engineering (BME) is seeking a creative student with experience in photography to assist with photographing and capturing video of a variety of activities in our department. The candidate should have photographic and video experience, be tech savvy, have awareness of current creative trends, an interest in attending events, and a proficiency in knowing what makes exciting, captivating images. The Photography and Video Intern will work closely with the Communications Manager to raise awareness of leading research, projects and innovations in biomedical engineering, while highlighting our academic programs and promoting the achievements of our faculty, students and staff through vivid images. The responsibilities of this position may be flexible to suit the student’s unique talents and skills set. Biomedical Engineering is uniquely positioned as a joint department within U-M’s College of Engineering and the Medical School.

Responsibilities

  • Create dynamic photographic and video content that promotes the research, faculty and students, and educational value of U-M BME.

  • Produce graphics for public display using templates or graphic design tools such as Canva, PowerPoint and/or the Adobe Suite.

  • Propose new ideas and concepts for content creation.

  • Monitor and assist in uploading video and photos to social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.

  • Assist with large marketing and communications projects, events and community management through photography support.

  • Work with timelines and scheduled initiatives to help ensure coverage of special events in the department.

  • Track and report marketing analytics and metrics across platforms, if requested.

  • Maintain awareness of current trends in social media and photography.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Sense of enthusiasm or adventure for biomedical engineering.

  • Experience in providing photographic support for social media content and monitors.

  • Exposure to graphic design or design templates for public platforms, such as websites, social media, posters and digital signage.

  • Team-oriented work style.

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Student studying Art, Photography, Videography or Digital Studies. We will ask to see a portfolio of work during the hiring process and will ask for letters of recommendation.
