Social Media Program Assistant Position Description The Women in Science and Engineering Residence Program (WISE RP) is seeking a Social Media Program Assistant to work 8-10 hours per week, providing support in managing the program’s social media presence across platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram. The assistant is responsible for developing and executing a weekly content plan, creating engaging posts promoting program events, student achievements, and alumni success, while contributing to the overall branding of WISE RP. The role involves planning and organizing a consistent posting schedule, enhancing outreach to current and prospective students, as well as alumni, and working closely with the WISE RP team to align content with program goals. Additionally, the assistant takes ownership of social media accounts, monitors engagement, and adjusts strategies to optimize reach. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop social media and marketing skills while supporting the WISE RP's mission to foster a supportive community for gender minoritized folks in STEM. The Social Media Program Assistant gains experience in the following areas: Position Responsibilities (Percent Responsibility) Content creation for social media platforms (70% of total effort): Creating graphics for events and publicizing them Posting events from other UMich organizations on social media Promoting student achievements and the WISE RP brand
Event support (20% of total effort): General management of social media platforms (10% of total effort): WISE RP Community Description The WISE RP is an academically and socially supportive living-learning community for first-year gender-minoritized students interested in STEM-aligned academic and career journeys. WISE RP students live together on the 3rd floor of Mosher Jordan Residence Hall and have an abundance of academic and social opportunities available to them. All first-year students take a one-credit course each semester (ALA 107 and ALA 108) as members of the WISE RP. Both courses introduce students to the opportunities and challenges gender-minoritized individuals face in the STEM fields. The WISE RP assists students’ in their transition to the university by providing social development activities, career development touch points, networking events, and academic success opportunities. Program Tenets The curricular and co-curricular elements of the WISE RP are grounded by three guiding tenets. These tenets are integrated in and inform all of WISE RP programmatic and academic initiatives. Identity in a STEM Context: Through curricular and co-curricular engagement, students will learn how to critically examine their social location (i.e., the groups people belong to because of their position in history and society; often characterized by gender, race, social class, age, ability, religion, sexual orientation, and geographic location--the intersections of social identity, context, and power), personal values, and lived experiences and begin to explore how these nuances inform and shape their experiences as gender-minoritized students in STEM. STEM Self-Efficacy: Focuses on cultivating students' belief in their abilities and capacity to engage in STEM (i.e., STEM self-efficacy). Students will develop an internal appreciation and self-conviction in their own influence, power, agency, and capacity for STEM. Critical Leadership Development: With identities and contexts centered, students will interrogate their perceptions and understanding of leadership. Students will cultivate their leadership skill sets and capacities and discover what lenses and abilities are important for leadership and how to practice leadership in a variety of disciplines, contexts, and settings.
