Job Description

Music Library Student Assistant

The Music Library is seeking student assistants to join the Access & Fulfillment team providing excellent patron service and making the library welcoming and usable. Work includes staffing the front desk, assisting patrons with circulation functions and basic reference queries, shelving print items and CDs, pulling requested items from the stacks, and scanning barcodes or reading call numbers to improve inventory accuracy.

Student employees will gain experience using a research library, learn the Library of Congress call number system, become familiar with services offered by the library, and build their catalog search skills.

Job Requirements

Requirements: 

  • Enrollment in a U-M undergraduate or graduate program 
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Able to work accurately with organizational systems
  • Capable of doing the physical work of shelving in the stacks
  • Available to work on North Campus

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Some musical background or experience
  • Familiarity with the Library of Congress call number system
Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
Hours 5.0 to 10.0 hours per week
Time Frame Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer
Start Date 1-2 weeks after hire date
End Date at end of term or availability
