Job Description

Bridge Builder Research Assistants (7-10 hours/week, Winter semester)

As part of the Ford School’s commitment to Resilient Democracies, the Leadership Initiative is recruiting a small cohort of Bridge Builder Research Assistants to support the Ford School’s growing work in equipping students for conversations across differences.  RAs will receive specialized training in facilitating constructive dialogue and serve as peer leaders in supporting the development and facilitation of programs across Ford School degree programs.

Working under the direction of the Leadership Initiative team in this pilot program, RAs may assist in the following:

 

  • Complete the Constructive Dialogue Institute’s “Perspectives” training as a cohort, learning and practicing fundamentals of constructive dialogue

  • Complete LeaderShape “Courageous Conversations” training; serve as peer facilitator for Ford offerings

  • Facilitate student dialogues across difference throughout school year; develop and facilitate immersive experiences that equip students for CAD, including shaping new and returning student orientations

  • Research best practices in CAD across peer policy schools and UM departments; propose expanded CAD offerings to develop Ford as a leader in equipping students with ability to participate in and facilitate CAD

  • Assist in design of measuring impact of CAD offerings

  • Communicate the value of assessments used by the LI for understanding, appreciating and communicating across difference

  • Research and develop a list of organizations committed to bipartisanship and CAD for Ford School connections, including internship and career opportunities

  • Assist Admissions staff with development of recruitment plan to promote related fellowships to target organizations

  • Conduct background research for development of public sector focused case studies relevant to building bridges across polarization, crisis management, and leadership  

  • Assist with selection and implementation of Ford Community Reads program

  • Assist with communications messages about Ford’s CAD offerings and impact

  • Serve as LI ambassador engaging with visitors, donors, speakers related to CAD

  • Promote programs via social media

  • Support CAD faculty working group, as needed

Compensation

This position is work/study eligible, but not required.  

The range for undergraduates is $15-$18/hr and is $18-$23/hr for graduate students.

    Job Requirements

    Qualifications

    • Graduate or undergraduate student enrolled in the Ford School

    • Demonstrated interest in leadership development

    • Demonstrated interest and experience in facilitating conversations across difference

    • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

    Hourly Rate $15.00/hour to $23.00/hour
