Accepting this position does not preclude the applicant from seeking other employment or internships during summer 2025, as long as they can continue working in this position. Description This position will run from approximately January to August 2025, and is located within the Deep Blue Repository and Research Data Services (DBRRDS) department of the University Library (https://www.lib.umich.edu/about-us/our-divisions-and-departments/michigan-publishing/deep-blue-repository-and-research-data). The Student Assistant will provide routine support to the operations of the Deep Blue Documents repository (https://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/documents), the Library’s repository for publications, presentations, and other research outputs produced by researchers at the University of Michigan. In particular, this position will assist the DBRRDS staff in updating the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section of Deep Blue Documents (https://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/static/about/deepbluefaq.html). This section is a group of fourteen HTML pages. This repository is being upgraded which includes an updated user interface. Much of the FAQs content needs to be updated, which will require review of internal staff documentation and working with Data Curation Specialists within DBRRDS, as well as software developers on occasion, to determine up-to-date information. Additionally, this position will research and write more robust guidance on how to create accessible files of various formats (PDF, text files, images, audiovisual material, etc) for the FAQs. In this course of this project, the student will gain knowledge on a leading academic document repository service and the capabilities of the DSpace platform software. Based on time and interest, this position may be able to take on additional responsibilities with the repository. Responsibilities: With DBRRDS staff, revise FAQs section of Deep Blue Documents; Keep detailed records of work completed; Conduct usability testing from the perspective of an end user; Proofread documentation; And other duties as assigned.
On-premises work (at the Shapiro Undergraduate Library) is expected, with possibility of remote work following training and probationary period dependent on performance. Schedule is flexible; to be determined with supervisor upon hiring; hours must be worked between 9am and 5 pm Monday through Friday. |
