Position Overview We are seeking a creative and motivated Marketing Intern – Writing & Content Development to join our team. This position is ideal for a student who is passionate about storytelling, journalism, or marketing communications, and who is eager to gain hands-on experience in higher education marketing. The intern will work closely with the Marketing Communications Specialist to develop written content that highlights the department’s people, programs, and initiatives. Key Responsibilities Primary Focus: Writing & Storytelling Write and edit clear, engaging content for various platforms, including web stories, newsletters, social media, and print materials. Develop student, faculty, and alumni features through interviews and independent research. Draft articles that showcase departmental achievements, research, events, and community impact. Ensure consistency with University of Michigan style and tone guidelines. Review and edit marketing copy for clarity, grammar, and brand alignment.
Marketing & Communications Support Assist in managing the department’s social media presence, including drafting captions, scheduling posts, and monitoring engagement. Support the creation of email campaigns and internal communications. Conduct background research and assist with collecting and organizing content for marketing campaigns. Collaborate on projects that require light graphic design, such as social media templates or flyers (prior design experience is helpful but not required). Take photos, shoot and edit short videos, and help maintain a media library as needed.
