About the DepartmentThe Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan is dedicated to shaping a sustainable and innovative future through research, education, and community engagement. Position OverviewWe are seeking a creative and enthusiastic Marketing Intern – Graphic Design to join our team. This position is ideal for a student passionate about design who is eager to expand their marketing and communication skillset. The intern will work closely with the Marketing Communications Specialist and collaborate on a variety of projects that enhance the department's visibility and impact.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrimary Focus: Graphic Design- Design engaging visual assets, including social media graphics, event flyers, posters, digital signage, and print materials.
- Ensure designs align with the University of Michigan's brand guidelines and the department's tone.
Marketing & Communications Support- Assist with creating and editing marketing copy for web, email, and print campaigns.
- Help manage the department’s social media channels by scheduling posts, engaging with audiences, and tracking analytics.
- Draft and publish web stories, including department news, faculty highlights, and student features.
- Conduct research for marketing campaigns and assist with data entry and analysis.
- Record and edit videos, take photographs, and enhance media content for departmental use.
- Conduct interviews with faculty, students, and alumni to develop content for marketing materials.
- Edit marketing copy to ensure clarity, consistency, and accuracy.

Job Requirements |
QualificationsRequired:- Current University of Michigan student majoring in Graphic Design, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
- Highly proficient in design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). Please send a design work portfolio to mhinawi@umich.edu.
- Strong visual storytelling and design skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail.
Preferred:- Experience with video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar).
- Basic photography and videography skills.
- Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook).
- Experience with content management systems (e.g., WordPress) and email marketing platforms (Salesforce Marketing Cloud).
