Job Description

This position will primarily involve generating basic bibliographic data for items in the Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (SEEES) backlog which currently have no records in Alma, thus enabling the items to be captured by our automated Slavic Search for existing MARC records in OCLC. The employee may, in the process, weed items which are found to be held by multiple BTAA institutions. Additional activities might include barcoding and stamping of books; support with gift acquisitions, including the screening of gift inventories, inputting and maintaining data in preparation for accession and record creation, and physical processing; and, depending on the employee’s interests, assistance with suitable projects that may come up during the term.

Educational Value

The student will gain exposure to the kaleidescope of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian (SEEE) languages and the depth of our associated collections. The position's extensive work with resource metadata will familiarize the student with how library searching systems work, thus greatly enhancing their ability to search independently in their own research. If the student is an aspiring librarian, the job will provide hands-on experience in critical professional practices.
