Job Description

The School of Public Health (SPH) invites applications for the Marketing and Communications intern position within the Careers Office, housed within the Office of Student Affairs (OSA). The Careers Office is a team of 4 full-time professionals that are focused on supporting the career journeys  of our graduate and undergraduate students. You do not need to be an SPH student to apply, but do need to be a University of Michigan student. 

 

Reporting to the Associate Director of Career Services, you will assist the Careers Office over the summer with basic communications items like inbox management and job postings. In addition to this, the intern will assist with a variety of items like: building out our instagram, create designs for advertising events, contribute to the general office branding strategy, assist with creating a linkedin announcements process and LinkedIn content creation, developing department outreach, creating a process to organize and share student internship success stories, and processing student testimonials about services. 


This position has the option and flexibility to be completely remote or hybrid. The summer position will require 10-15 hours of work per week, with compensation at $17 per hour. If working in person, shifts would be completed in SPH 1, Suite 1700.

Responsibilities

50% - Communications 

  • Lead the management of the SPH Careers inbox through organizing and responding to emails 

  • Post jobs, internships, and fellowships with a heavy focus on data entry in our Careers Gateway platform 

50% - Marketing 

  • Building out our instagram, creating designs for advertising events, contributing to the general office branding strategy, assisting with creating a linkedin announcements process and LinkedIn content creation, developing department outreach, creating a process to organize and share student internship success stories, and processing student testimonials about services. 

  • Contribute to the creation of promotional videos highlighting careers services offerings and programming to engage stakeholders and effectively market our work

We are seeking an intern with experience and interests in the following skills and strengths. During our hiring process, we will be evaluating materials and asking interview questions based on candidates demonstrating their interest and experience in these areas.

 

 

  • Project management

    • Organize work to effectively complete the tasks of this position (email correspondence & organization, job postings, and marketing project)

    • Maintain consistent communication with team members and stakeholders on project progress

  • Time management

    • Ability to follow through with large and small elements of project deliverables

    • Ability to complete projects on time, meet deadlines, and be well-organized with multiple deadlines 

  • Marketing Design & Communications 

    • Ability to evaluate webpage content and provide recommendations for improvements

    • Written communication skills to edit and develop webpage content 

    • Interest in developing engaging content including videos and visualizations

  • Demonstrated commitment to DEI in engagement work 

  • Pursuing a University of Michigan degree of any kind 

Review Process

After the application closes on January 27th, our Career Services staff will review resumes and cover letters and evaluate them according to the “skills & strengths we are seeking” listed above. We will then contact candidates for zoom interviews conducted February 5th-12th. Our interview questions will be based on evaluating candidates’ experience and interests regarding the “skills & strengths we are seeking” listed above. We will provide the interview questions in advance of the interview and provide guidance on how to prepare for interviews. We will make every effort to notify all candidates of a hiring decision by February 24th.
