Job Summary:
The Interpersonal Violence Research Laboratory at the University of Michigan is seeking
applications for a Research Assistant. The IVRL uses community-led research to prevent sexual
and related forms of violence among structurally minoritized youth including youth and
communities of color as well as 2SLGBTQ+ youth. The Research Assistant in this position will

work on one or more of the following studies:
1. Research examining the impact of a culturally grounded, empowerment-based, gender
transformative sexual violence prevention program on a rural Indian reservation in the Northern Great Plains.
2. Research examining the impact of a school-based sex trafficking prevention program among youth of color in a city in the Midwest.
3. Research examining the impact of affirming, programs to reduce negative outcomes and
promote positive youth development among 2SLGBTQ+ youth.

We are seeking two to three highly motivated, detail-oriented, and professional Research Assistants to carry out the following duties and responsibilities not limited to:

  • Screening potential participants to ensure eligibility criteria are met.
  • Preparing study materials.
  • Entering pre and post survey data, post session surveys, and fidelity forms.
  • Managing participant databases.
  • Supporting projectadministration activities including scheduling meetings, organizing research materials, and managing communication.
  • Documenting research procedures, data collection methods, and results accurately for future reference and publication.
  • Participation in qualitative data analysis (e.g.,coding open-endedresponses on survey questions).
  • Participating in weekly meetings with the research team.
  • Supporting dissemination activities such as community reports, academic papers, and conference presentations.
  • Assisting with quarterly newsletter and other community outreach activities.
  • Other research and administrative tasks as assigned.
Educational Value

The student will gain invaluable experience related to various aspects community-based participatory action research, exposure to school and community and tribal partners, and
opportunities to participation in dissemination (e.g., publications).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous research experience 
  • Previous experience working with children or teens 
  • Ability to work some in person hours in the SSW (Ann Arbor) as opposed to remote work only 
  • Preference given to individuals who can commit to at least one year of work

Work Location Work Locations: Although the work location will be in the School of Social Work building (SSWB) at 108 Arbor, MI 48109-1106, a hybrid of remote and in person work is available. Additionally, some travel to work sites in IA and SD are possible but not required, although they could be a great training opportunity. Hours position would be 10-15 hours a week. This position is eligible for a work study award.
