A part-time Research Assistant Position is immediately available in the Werneburg Lab in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in the Kellogg Eye Center at the University of Michigan, Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Our lab focuses on understanding how microglia, the resident immune cells of the brain, and immune pathways regulate visual neural circuits. Our lab utilizes various cutting-edge techniques such as super-resolution confocal microscopy, transcriptomics, proteomics, mouse genetics, animal behavior, and numerous molecular biology techniques to study how microglia and other immune cell populations regulate the development and refinement of synaptic circuits in health and disease. Our primary disease focus includes, but is not limited to, Multiple Sclerosis and related demyelinating pathologies, as well visual system disorders and Alzheimer's disease. We are seeking a commitment from motivated students who desire to provide a technical support role and assist with administrative tasks and lab maintenance. The candidate will provide technical support and collaborate with postdocs and graduate students on scientific projects. Responsibilities include handling, maintaining, and breeding animals, genotyping, histological preparation of tissues, microscopic imaging, data analysis, and other relevant duties assigned by Dr. Werneburg. Candidates should feel comfortable working with mice (prior experience preferred but not necessary), work well in a group, and have a strong ability to multitask. |
