Job Description

The purpose of this job is to assist with research investigating neurodegenerative cascades in neurodegenerative disease in the model Drosophila melanogaster. This is a wet-lab job and offers experience for those interested in biomedical research. Beginning responsibilities will include maintaining survival and behavioral experiments as well as assisting with stock maintenance. As students progress through the job additional roles can include a variety of molecular biology and imaging techniques. 

Educational Value

This position offers experience to students who are seeking either their first experience in a research laboratory or for those looking to gain further experience. I will meet students where they are with experience to teach both skills required for the research as well as background information to learn why experiments are being done. Such experience will be valuable to those pursuing careers in research or medicine. 

Job Requirements

The primary requirement is availability to work 10 hours per week, mainly spread over 3 days per week, as well as being eager and willing to learn. This job will require regular work during the week and weekends. Duties will be shared with the supervisor to preserve flexibility with schedules. Clear communication with supervisors regarding any questions or problems arising in the course of work is also required and encouraged. While prior lab experience may be preferred this is not required as this is also an opportunity to get first lab experience. 

Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
