Job Description

The Future Public Health Leaders Program (FPHLP) is a CDC-funded program designed to encourage underrepresented college students to consider careers in public health. The program is a 10-week residential summer program that runs from May 26 through August 1, 2025. FPHLP incorporates a multi-prong curriculum that integrates real-world field experience and seminars and workshops designed to introduce students to public health careers. 

FPHLP is seeking two full-time residential life leaders to plan and supervise residential life activities during the week and on weekends for approximately Forty (40) undergraduate students. The Residential Life Leader will be responsible for defined activities in the morning, afternoon, and weekends. FPHLP is looking for a highly organized individual who is able to interact with a diverse group of people. The selected candidate must be able to exercise good judgment and have strong interpersonal skills. An orientation/training session is mandatory for the position. The position is from May 19 through August 8, 2025. 

The Residential Life leader is expected to live full-me in the Residential Hall with the students: stipend plus room and partial board.

 
Educational Value

Programmatic 

? Distribute and collect the vehicle keys. 

? Coordinate student transportation to public health sites and other activities for the students. ? Plan and facilitate evening and weekend activities for the FPHLP students. 

? Participate in in-person weekly meetings with key program staff. 

? Send field trips, including Saturday events, with the students and assist with program and student logistics. 

? Helping out with certain sessions during the weekdays, like the closing ceremony and other activities 

Community and Student Development 

? Work cooperatively with students to ensure an inclusive and welcoming environment. 

? Build connections with FPHLP students. 

? Act as the liaison between the FPHLP team and UM Housing to ensure a safe and healthy living environment. 

? Serve as a local resource for students in the Residence Hall. 

? Participate in on-call duty rotation to support FPHLP students. 

? Demonstrate consistent availability and accessibility to FPHLP students during the program. This includes meeting with and building connections among residents on a regular basis.

 
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications 

? Completion of at least three years at an undergraduate institution. 

? Experience with conflict resolution and negotiation. 

? Ability to work as part of a team and capacity to exercise independent judgment. 

Desired qualifications: 

- Experience with supervision and leadership, strongly desired 

- Graduate student preferred 

- Experience as a Residential Advisor 

- Familiarity with diversity issues in higher education and the challenges faced by underrepresented populations is highly desired

 

Compensation 

Estimated Start date: May 19, 2025

End date: August 8, 2025

Paid: $6000 over 12 weeks (paid out every 2 weeks)
