Job Description

The Future Public Health Leaders Program (FPHLP) is a CDC-funded program designed to encourage underrepresented college students to consider careers in public health. The program is a 10-week residential summer program that runs from May 27 through August 1, 2025. FPHLP incorporates a multi-prong curriculum integrating real-world field experience and seminars and workshops designed to introduce students to public health careers. 

FPHLP is seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) program assistant to support the FPHLP team and participants to support the summer curriculum and program efforts. This position reports in person to the School of Public Health.

 
Educational Value

Duties and responsibilities:

Curriculum Support (50%): Assist in organizing and coordinating program activities, such as the Community Based Research Project and Saturday Community Service events. Provide logistical support during Mondays, Wednesdays (half-day), and Fridays.  Assist in the preparation and distribution of program materials, including newsletters and presentations. Provide feedback on student materials submitted via Canvas and assist with weekly check-ins.

Social Media (25%): Assist with collecting and analyzing data for quality improvement for the Michigan FPHLP Team.  Participate in developing outreach and marketing materials to engage with Alumni and present findings and recommendations for the program. Create, curate, and schedule engaging content, including posts, videos, infographics, and more. Monitor social media channels for engagement, respond to inquiries, and foster community interaction.

Administrative (20%): Provide general administrative support, including collecting and distributing daily mail, data entry, and cleaning. Assist with event planning including arranging catering and logistics. Assist staff with proofreading, editing, sorting, and preparing documents. Assist with the coordination of a summer book club. 

Other (5%): Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications 

  • Graduate student enrolled in a Master of Public Health, Master of Social Work, or similar program. 

  • Ability to work as part of a team and capacity to exercise independent judgment. 

  • Experience working with community-based organizations

  • Experience with supervision and leadership is strongly desired  

Familiarity with diversity issues in higher education and the challenges faced by underrepresented populations is highly desired

 

Compensation 

Estimated Start date: May 19, 2025

End date: August 9, 2025 

Paid: $17 - $20 per hour
