Job Description

The Center for Sustainable Systems (CSS) at the School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) conducts research and provides education in systems science for climate action and sustainability. We are seeking to fill a summer position providing administrative/office support and occasional research support, including but not limited to:

  • Assist in creating and maintaining office files and databases
  • Maintain and update CSS website, email contact lists, and other digital tools
  • Draft CSS communications including newsletter (MailChimp platform), social media posts, etc.
  • Support ongoing and emergent projects such as creating presentations, memos, etc.
  • Plan and coordinate special events and programs such as board meetings and seminars (publicity, scheduling, and event set-up/take-down)
  • Occasionally support research-oriented work such as help draft grant proposals

  • Learn about sustainable systems analysis, methods, and research
  • Develop strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Build a network with fellow students, faculty, and external partners in sustainable systems
  • Enhance professional skills such as organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills

Job Requirements

We are seeking a graduate-level student who:

  • Is studying sustainable systems, sustainability, engineering sustainability, sustainable business, or similar (preferred) or has a demonstrated passion and interest in these fields
  • Is available to work 20-40 hours per week through summer 2025 (If you are taking classes during the summer, you can only work up to 29 hours. Full time option for students not enrolled in summer classes).
  • Has experience and comfort working in Powerpoint, Word, Excel, and other office/business software
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and rigor in their work
  • Is a collaborative team player and will bring a positive energy to the CSS community
  • Has the ability to work independently, manage their time effectively, assume responsibility, and exercise good judgement
