Job Summary:

This new role will work with Gabriela Marcu to develop a social media strategy, then lead regular posts in line with that strategy. The work will also involve interacting with different members of the UMSI community, and our collaborators at a local improv theater.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Craft a social media presence for our comedy show, which combines research talks from UMSI with comedy by a local improv group 
  • Develop and oversee a social media strategy that uses humor and positivity to (1) share the work of UMSI with the public, and (2) build community within and beyond UMSI
  • Pitch, plan, and execute creative social media posts while seeking feedback from UMSI stakeholders
  • Attend 1-3 events per month to capture photos, videos, and stories that can be shared on social media
Educational Value
  • Gain experience with leading a marketing and communication strategy while collaborating with various stakeholders

  • Apply and develop skills in creative writing, comedy writing, graphic design, photography, and/or videography

  • Practice turning complex research ideas into pithy social media content while staying true to core meaning and messaging

  • Develop strong portfolio pieces

Job Requirements
  • Skills in marketing, communications, creative writing, and/or comedy writing 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Highly creative and collaborative

  • Proficiency with social media platforms and interest in using social media for social impact

  • Excellent initiative and ability to work independently while seeking out input from others

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including attention to detail

Hourly Rate $20.00/hour to $25.00/hour
Hours 5.0 to 15.0 hours per week

Work Location School of Information, North Quadrangle, Central Campus, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. This is a hybrid position with in-person needs as well as high flexibility for remote work. Hybrid work follows the UMSI Remote Work Policy and with supervisor approval. Remote work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change depending upon our needs.
